Behind the scenes at Kanonloppet: Watching Porsche racing live at Gelleråsen

Stepping into Gelleråsen Arena during the classic Kanonloppet on August 15th was a completely new experience for me. As the creator behind the F1 account F1rmav, I am used to following motorsport on screens, but this was the first time I got to see cars in this specific class compete live at the track. Getting to watch the real Porsche cars thunder past on the tarmac was absolutely magical, and they truly looked much faster in real life than they usually do on television.

When we arrived at the massive event grounds, it turned out to be a bit more difficult than expected to find our section, even though we had been given a map in advance. The only issue was that the map reflected what all parts of the area looked like when it was completely empty. Once we were actually there, the track was instead packed to the brim with thousands of people and rock bands playing live, which turned navigation into quite a little adventure. It was by no means a negative thing, but rather contributed to that vibrant festival atmosphere you want at a major racing event.

What really impressed me was the fantastic vibe and the ultimate summer atmosphere that filled all of Gelleråsen this weekend. Around the venue, they had set up plenty of nice grilling areas, and there were lots of shops and booths to visit between the heats. The absolute best part was how close you could actually get to the motorsport action. The spectator area was brilliantly set up, and when the cars drove out of the pit lane, almost everyone on site had the opportunity to see it from a very close distance because the exit was right next to the stands and shops. It gave an incredible sense of closeness to stand there and feel the vibrations and hear the engine roars just a few meters away.

During the day, I realized that I might have filmed quite a bit more than what was actually needed, so it took a significant amount of time to download all the clips later on. We spent some time in the press room working with our material, and since it was the middle of August on a brilliant summer day, it was actually quite hot inside, but given the amazing weather outside, that was obviously something the staff could not do anything about. Despite the tropical heat indoors, it was a perfect place to recharge and go through all the footage. I truly enjoyed my entire stay at Gelleråsen Arena and brought some incredible memories home with me.
